Funny, so "many" people write such nasty things about me in Bali. People who hide behind pseudonyms, people who have committed crime after crime, really typical expatriates in Bali in fact. Unfortunately Bali is a pedophile blackspot (source: UNCHR) riddled with crime and corruption yet somehow they (actually a small band of foreign hate mongers) are all saviors and I am the devil; Mark Austin Bali!
So I have taken the time out of my valuable family and real life away from the Internet to put some facts together about me, nasty Mark Austin of Bali! You can read my early Balinese history here, before the corrupt Bali police and certain criminal elements in Bali decided to act against me unlawfully and illegally. And before the little expatriate rat pack decided to jump on the bandwagon and have a go at me for sticking up for my legal rights while bringing the plight of the Balinese to travelers' attention. If you ever doubt just how corrupt and nasty the police are in Indonesia, your should visit the Transparency International web site and you will see the Indonesian government, legislative, police and judiciary rank as the most corrupt in the world.
Even after the police of Bali started acting like the mafia they really are against me, I still supported Bali; such as providing 2002 terrorist bomb victims' families with free accommodation plus donating money to the desperate families of hotel staff sent home without pay in a country with no social welfare system. Even to this day I run, through my UK company, a charitable reservations site for Bali & Thailand called Travel Ethos where 100% of the direct fees earned from hotels and villas go to local children's charities in Bali and Thailand, not like other reservation sites owners who line only their own pockets. Isn't it ironic therefore that there are heartless foreign crooks including pedophiles in Bali, all feigning respectability, calling me a bad guy? Me, nasty Mark Austin of Bali!
If you read any of their pathetic text written against me; take a look at who writes it and where. The few that actually disclose their real name; take a look on the Internet and see what others have to say about them. Those that use pseudonyms on forums and blogs where you do not have to disclose your real identity are likely to be the very same people playing the quantity not quality game and even if they are different individuals, their words are clearly those of cowards. They clutch at straws trying to find something, anything unsavory about me and even accuse me of selling prescription drugs illegally; what a joke! Regarding the corrupt mafia Balinese police, you can read in detail what happened to me here: Nasty Bali, but I would like to summarize some key facts here;
1) The Balinese police have conducted a number of unlawful investigations against me and once unlawfully seized my passport (until the British Embassy intervened to get it back). The police have made regular death threats against me.
2) My aggrieved competitor, Jack Daniels of Bali Discovery Tours, paid the Balinese police $3000 to place my name on Interpol's regional watch list as a suspected insurgent even though the only official investigation into me was for libel (against him, what a joke) which does not qualify me for a watch order under Interpol's strict criteria. After a formal complaint, Interpol removed that watch order although I get threats from Bali that there will be more watch orders to come as they are determined to get me. Some expats say I am making the Interpol thing up. Although I can not put all of the evidence I have on this site for obvious reasons, please see Balinese / Indonesian Interpol.
3) The data from that watch order including my home address in Phuket where we lived at the time and my movements were passed to Jack Daniels of Bali Discovery Tours (he does not like me because I caught him committing fraud and other illegal acts such as tax evasion and personally working in Bali illegally without a visa) who then paid for Thai gangsters to try and kill me (these are all recorded / documented facts). I tried to resolve matters with Jack Daniels (not the other way around as he says) but he would not have it. I tried to resolve the matter in a US court with him, a US citizen, but he evaded service and claimed US courts did not have jurisdiction over him. Unfortunately my US lawyer screwed up and filed a court petition two days past the deadline and I lost the right to me Daniels face-to-face in a real court, not some kangaroo Indonesian court (see Transparency International's reports) on technical grounds; I got my legal costs back and Daniels did not but that was no consolation to me or getting matters properly resolved for everyone's benefit.
4) My problems in bringing the corrupt Balinese police and Daniels to justice are ongoing as although Indonesia has acceded to the International Convention on Human Rights it has never adjudicated a single case of the thousands of complaints submitted and has refused to sign the all important First Protocol which would allow these cases to be heard outside Indonesia. Indonesia has according to Human Rights Watch (just see what they have to say about cases such as "Munir") one the very worst records for human rights in the world. My own government's policy is not to interfere with domestic matters in another country, even when they are illegal and against one of their own subjects.
5) The Balinese police keep trying to get me outside their jurisdiction, the latest thing is they are trying to get the Balinese legislators to classify me as a terrorist because of my web site Nasty Bali on the basis it terrorizes people (no, really, I am not kidding you, read this). Of course, if I had published anything unlawful outside Indonesia, the Indonesian authorities could and would easily be able to get it removed from the Internet and even file a criminal complaint against me, or sue me. If they really believed my web site causes unrest in Bali, it would be yet another simple matter for their regulatory body to prevent people in Indonesia from accessing it. The reason therefore the Balinese police do what they do instead is what I have to say is 100% lawful / legal but because it describes how bad they are, they really do not like it; you know, thieves hate being called thieves and all that.
6) Recently details of my passport (the one that the Balinese police unlawfully seized) were published on the Internet by two aggrieved nasty expats in Bali; Roy Thompson a widely reported narcotics dealer in Ubud and Bert Vierstra a reported pedophile in Lovina. The only place the passport copy could have come from is the Balinese police as the passport they seized at the time was a brand new replacement and got accidentally destroyed in the washing machine shortly after I got it back from them; it was the copy of this same passport which got published by these Bali expats on the world wide web.
7) These nasty expatriates and the even nastier Balinese police are trying to this day to find out my true (present) home address. They have even been on eBay trying to find it that way; fortunately I had the foresight to use my lawyer's office address here. They also will do anything it seems to get a more up to date and better quality photograph of me as the one they have is a not very good copy of a copy of an old passport photo.
Just look around and you will see what I say is factual. So why do these bitter, classless foreign "oiks" laugh at the fact someone made a serious attempt to murder me? And why too do these same foreigners in Bali want to defame me? Because they are not happy that I stick up for my legal rights and publish the truth, which just happens to conflict with their wholly selfish interests. Remember, a lot of what I have published and been attacked for has been my sticking up for the Balinese who get defrauded at work by their employers. I am sure any level headed person will agree Bali's expats publishing my photograph, wanting a current original plus my current address in Portugal is at the very least weird and in bad taste, especially given the murder attempt against me, most likely attempts to help put my life at risk again.
Footnote: The Balinese people are generally really nice and peaceful but get abused something rotten by Jakarta and the foreigners that plague the island. Not all foreign expats in Bali are bad, I know a few that are nice, even great people that support the Balinese; but too many are not, beware.

These are documented, repeat documented facts which show I actually helped and supported Vierstra only to have him turn against me, try to hack my web sites, get involved with my human rights case against the Balinese police and expatriate Jack Daniels when he had no business (except nasty business) to do so and which I told him to stay out of, has been involved in illegal activities against me since and now seeks to publicly defame me.
November 2002, Bali’s corrupt police take an unlawful unsigned report against me from a competitor with a grudge after I caught them offering unauthorized and unsustainable hotel rates on the Internet (Jack Daniels) and unlawfully detained myself and confiscated my passport (unless you are charged with a crime, neither is legal). The British Embassy who rarely intervenes stated their acts were unlawful and intervened to secure my and my passport’s immediate release.
17th January 2003 I run the Bali and Lombok Travel Forum and Bert Vierstra contact me and asked for support on his new Bali expat forum; I provide several links to him.
June and July 2003 I send Vierstra two sales enquiries for his new villa real estate site (before I realized villa sales to foreigners are an unlawful fraud), one for his top end listed property. Vierstra says “I”ll kiss you, really”; I am pretty sure he meant it as an approach and without reply / saying so suspected then that he was gay.
January 2004 I send another customer to Vierstra.
April 2004 Myself, my wife and our 18 month old son have to flee our home in Thailand after armed Thai thugs come to the estate office and ask for the exact location of our home there. I am able by reference to written statements made by Jack Daniels in Bali show that he was responsible and publish these facts.
November 2004 Vierstra admits to having posted hate messages on my Bali and Lombok Travel Forum using pseudonyms.
November 2004 Vierstra discusses with other members of his expat forum, including one Roy Thompson, how to get past the security on my forum to post hate messages. Legally because both Vierstra and Thompson had been told not to use my forum what they attempted was trespass and defacement; hacking. I published this fact and so did others.
November 2004 Vierstra tells me he is going for coffee with the man who filed the unlawful police complaint against me and clearly tried to have me killed; Vierstra says he is doing this to find out the truth. I tell him not to do this as I will take these both as meddling in something very dangerous he has no business to get involved in and a sign he is supporting Daniels against me. Vierstra says “If the situation you are in is not your own fault, but a deliberate attack (for what reason?) I will go public”.
12th November 2004 Vierstra meets with Jack Daniels and is reportedly shown a copy of the police file against me (which Daniels should not have of course) including details of an Interpol Watch Order placed against me by the Balinese police showing my former home address and movements in Thailand. Of course it is plain to any idiot that I did not and still do not warrant an Interpol watch order, especially when the data from that is given to someone who stands accused of obtaining my home address in Thailand by some foul / unlawful means and sending thugs to kill me. I was still unaware of the unlawful acts by the Balinese police regarding Interpol at this time and their file on Daniels’ desk proved highly illegal and murderous acts were being committed against me. Did Bert Vierstra uphold his previous pious statement that he would make any wrong doing public? Did Bert Vierstra, the man who exudes or rather feigns self-morality let me know what was going on so I could take actions to protect myself and my family? Why no, Bert Vierstra did what he does best. He tells the world he is working for the good of Bali and humanity while lying, meddling and trying to cause other people harm. Vierstra emailed me and said “I have had some meetings with people today, heard a lot that I didn't know yet. Our conversations are over, I will not send you any mail anymore and won't reply to yours.” However Bert Vierstra clearly shows his nasty mind set as he continues to demean me on his forum. He promises to follow me around the Internet as he is not happy I published the fact he tried to hack my forum and also help others do the same. I and others describe Vierstra as a “Little Nazi”.
June 2005 I am informed about the unlawful Interpol Watch Order by my new lawyers in Jakarta who visited the Bali police.
June 2005 My London lawyers file a complaint under the data protection act (EU) with Interpol about my name being placed on their automated watch facility, and also a complaint against the Balinese police officers involved (I understand police chief Made Pastika himself signed the Interpol authorization form) under Interpol’s anti-corruption mandate. It transpires the watch order was a regional one with the Thai Police, so the 2 complaints had to also be filed regionally with Interpol’s office in Jakarta (staffed by Indonesians of course) who quickly removed the watch order but did not respond nor commence an investigation.
2007 Several times Vierstra posted that I had hacked one of his web sites, a photo site. It transpires that in fact no-one had hacked his site but that he had a problem with his web hosting company; I believe he forgot to pay them! Did Vierstra the man who admitted he tried to hack my forum apologize for calling me a hacker? No, but then look at what Vierstra says a lot of about me without substance or evidence and think of Freud.
April 2007 Vierstra’s little friend Roy Thompson of Ubud who he colluded with to hack my forums gets a scan of my passport from Jack Daniels and publishes it on the Internet. Bert Vierstra conducts an anti-Mark Austin session on his blogs and forums and posts links to this illicitly gained material on the web; my requests to have this data removed were ignored by Vierstra and his hosting company replied it was up to him. Knowing I was the subject of an unlawful Interpol watch order and that an attempt had likely been made on my life, Vierstra again shows what he alludes to be and what he actually is are two totally different and opposed things.
June 2007 Roy Thompson (Vierstra’s agent) emails me to tell me my name is going to be put on Interpol’s automated watch facility again.
July 2007 Allegations start being published that Bert Vierstra is a pedophile backed up with quite substantive evidence. Bert Vierstra then for the first time since November 2004 emails me accusing me of being responsible. Even if I were, I believe he would deserve it given his acts against me. The allegations were then also made on the Bali BS site. I have an email from the owner of Bali BS who contacted Vierstra before publishing anything giving him the chance to deny the claims and evidence which shows Vierstra is likely a pedophile and Vierstra replied quote “just publish what you think you have”. Bert Vierstra actually addressed this to me by name as he falsely contends I operate Bali BS, so Vierstra gave both myself and Bali BS permission to publish whatever we thought about him regarding his alleged pedophilia.
Bali BS went ahead and did what Vierstra had given them permission to do, but then Vierstra was not happy as the evidence included an association he had with a recently convicted pedophile plus other material which made the allegations highly credible. Bert Vierstra then starts a campaign of “proving” Bali BS is me in order to deflect attention away from himself and the question as to whether he is a pedophile. Vierstra’s “proof” purely shows I have helped which I have always admitted / stated. Veirstra also accused German Harry Bleckert of being Bali BS' owner at one point.
August 10th 2007 Vierstra then contacts me and ask me to help him. Vierstra said that he had already removed certain defamatory material he published about me as a conciliatory gesture and asked if a) I would remove the page about him here on this blog site and b) ask another blogger to do the same on his site. I told him I really did not care what he had published about me at that point but agreed anyway as a sign of good faith and possible mediation. I kept to my word, Vierstra did not. After I had removed the page (without back-up) he reinstated the page(s) on me he had deleted and which he kept a back up of; hmmm, if he kept a back-up is it not clear Vierstra intended to publish them again? I emailed the other blogger but he refused to remove his blog about Vierstra likely being a pedophile.
When I looked at Vierstra’s site, not only had he reinstated the defamatory page he had said he had permanently removed and without saying anything to me (of course), but he had also published a whole host of new anti-Mark garbage, including a picture of me made into the likeness of a pig. I actually got a good laugh out of it and my Balinese wife has sent it to her family in Bali so they can have a good laugh too, but Bert Vierstra’s act was not designed to amuse me for sure. The file name used by Vierstra is "austinpignose.jpg" and if this is not Internet defamation, then I do not know what is.
Bert also posted this picture of a cat and claimed it was of me; note the remark about lawyers as this will become quite poignant shortly. Basically he is calling me a "scaredy cat" who calls for his lawyers whenever anyone says anything bad about me, in reference to my court case against his friend Jack Daniels, which Viersta and his forum buddies claim was a victory for freedom of speech (my lawyer in the USA missed a filing deadline by 2 days so my case against Daniels was struck out on a technicality).
I believe Vierstra has made around 50 hate blogs against me to date, all of the same "quality" and "standard". Bert Vierstra also let it slip in his tirade of published hate against me that he had gone to the Balinese police in Lovina at the very same time as having made a so-called conciliatory gesture to and false agreement with me, to “file a report” with them about me, claiming I was the owner of Bali BS and other sites and had committed criminal libel against him. So Bert went to the police to tell them he had evidence I was the owner of Bali BS while admitting to others he knew I was not; Something about making a falsified police complaint?
So on to Bert’s complaint to the police of criminal libel by me against him. Criminal libel in Indonesia involves a law that was introduced to stop Indonesians with less power and influence saying anything possibly damaging about an Indonesian with more power and influence than them, even when this is true and in the public’s best interest. Forgetting the fact that the law clearly states it is for Indonesians and people within Indonesia, so putting anything I say about Bert outside their jurisdiction, the basis of Indonesian criminal libel is that one person has to get the express permission of another person they wish to make a potentially damaging statement about! Criminal libel is Indonesia’s most abused law for this reason as it prevents anyone telling the truth about someone more powerful unless they agree to it! It is why reporting corrupt police officers to the Indonesian Corruption Commission without getting police approval first gives them the “right” to arrest you for criminal libel against the police! Thing is, Bert gave me and others permission to say what we thought, so I can not have libeled him by any legal definition, even in the corrupt judicial land of Indonesia.
Unfortunately for Bert his Balinese police complaint against me backfired as I understand he was told to remove all the Mark Austin and Bali BS nonsense off his “blog” site by them on the basis is was promoting interest in Bali BS and me to the detriment of Bali and Indonesia. Bert must have spent days writing all the garbage and researching all the half facts he did, such as the fact I once published a book and had been involved in weight loss web sites. Bert and his forum friends calling me a "freak" derided my book which was about the possibility of an afterlife thanks to quantum mechanics. Bert went on to publish false claims that my charitable site was a fraud, that I did not actually give money to charity; how's that for libel? What made it worse is that Bert deliberately targeted my charitable site on the internet to show up in search engine returns and thus affect the money my site earned for children's charities; how's that for nasty? Bert Vierstra basically called me a criminal for having been involved in online medications even though I had already informed him that I actually sought legal advice and even contacted the US FDA at one point and was never informed that anything I was doing was remotely criminal, yet Bert still described me as one. Plus Bert went on to show just how flawed all his so-called investigations and proof are against me by claiming I was into jewelry on the Internet as a business; not me thank you. It is clear Bert spent months worth of time on his false quest to defame me on the Internet and being made to remove all his sad work clearly did not go down well with Bert as this is when he decided to take his quest against me to Portugal!
Bert has been pulling a few favours with one of his little Dutch chums to try and harass me in Portugal, with threatening text messages to my mobile, with an email saying he would come to Portugal to deal with me face to face (any day Bert, just make sure it is face to face and you call me first to avoid any misunderstandings) and to threaten me with libel proceedings in Portugal and the EU. Vierstra has even "appointed" his Dutch friend's "lawyer" in Lisbon, one Luís Carvalho Neves, whose advogado association fax contact number indicates he is registered solely for general legal advice (counsel) within his position as Secretary General for the Portuguese Association of Vending Machines! So this is what Bert meant about dispensing justice! No matter what lawyer Vierstra goes crying like a little scaredy cat to though, Bert has that one major legal technical hurdle to overcome; he gave both me and Bali BS permission to publish what we wanted! So as for suing me in Portugal and the EU; oh, OK! Perhaps Bert is on coke.
The above are documented facts, not seeming pure rhetoric as with Vierstra. I believe the cold light of day shows that Vierstra is gay and therefore lives in Bali unlawfully courtesy of a sham marriage and that he exhibits severe psychological (mental) problems which I believe are typical of a pedophile. As the saying goes, especially when he gave me permission to say it “If the pedophile cap fits Vierstra, you must be a pedophile”.

Vierstra said that he had already removed certain defamatory material he published about me as a conciliatory gesture and asked if a) I would remove the page about him here on this blog site and b) ask another blogger to do the same on his site. I told him I really did not care what he had published about me at that point but agreed anyway as a sign of good faith and possible mediation. I kept to my word, Vierstra did not. After I had removed the page (without back-up) he reinstated the page(s) on me he had deleted and which he kept a back up of; hmmm, if he kept a back-up is it not clear Vierstra intended to publish them again? I emailed the other blogger but he refused to remove his blog about Vierstra likely being a pedophile.
When I looked at Vierstra’s site, not only had he reinstated the defamatory page he had said he had permanently removed and without saying anything to me (of course), but he had also published a whole host of new anti-Mark garbage, including a picture of me made into the likeness of a pig. I actually got a good laugh out of it and my Balinese wife has sent it to her family in Bali so they can have a good laugh too, but Bert Vierstra’s act was not designed to amuse me for sure. The file name used by Vierstra is "austinpignose.jpg" and if this is not Internet defamation, then I do not know what is.
Bert also posted this picture of a cat and claimed it was of me; note the remark about lawyers as this will become quite poignant shortly. Basically he is calling me a "scaredy cat" who calls for his lawyers whenever anyone says anything bad about me, in reference to my court case against his friend Jack Daniels, which Viersta and his forum buddies claim was a victory for freedom of speech (my lawyer in the USA missed a filing deadline by 2 days so my case against Daniels was struck out on a technicality).I believe Vierstra has made around 50 hate blogs against me to date, all of the same "quality" and "standard". Bert Vierstra also let it slip in his tirade of published hate against me that he had gone to the Balinese police in Lovina at the very same time as having made a so-called conciliatory gesture to and false agreement with me, to “file a report” with them about me, claiming I was the owner of Bali BS and other sites and had committed criminal libel against him. Funny how Bert Vierstra likes to dish it out but does not like anyone saying anything bad about him! However, while telling the police with his concocted and often falsified “evidence” that I was the owner of Bali BS, he admitted to his little expatriate friends online that he was sure I did not own Bali BS, only that I supported them. So Bert went to the police to tell them he had evidence I was the owner of Bali BS while admitting to others he knew I was not; Something about making a falsified police complaint?
So on to Bert’s complaint to the police of criminal libel by me against him. Criminal libel in Indonesia involves a law that was introduced to stop Indonesians with less power and influence saying anything possibly damaging about an Indonesian with more power and influence than them, even when this is true and in the public’s best interest. Forgetting the fact that the law clearly states it is for Indonesians and people within Indonesia, so putting anything I say about Bert outside their jurisdiction, the basis of Indonesian criminal libel is that one person has to get the express permission of another person they wish to make a potentially damaging statement about! Criminal libel is Indonesia’s most abused law for this reason as it prevents anyone telling the truth about someone more powerful unless they agree to it! It is why reporting corrupt police officers to the Indonesian Corruption Commission without getting police approval first gives them the “right” to arrest you for criminal libel against the police! Thing is, Bert gave me and others permission to say what we thought, so I can not have libeled him by any legal definition, even in the corrupt judicial land of Indonesia.
Unfortunately for Bert his Balinese police complaint against me backfired as I understand he was told to remove all the Mark Austin and Bali BS nonsense off his “blog” site by them on the basis is was promoting interest in Bali BS and me to the detriment of Bali and Indonesia. Bert must have spent days writing all the garbage and researching all the half facts he did, such as the fact I once published a book and had been involved in weight loss web sites. Bert and his forum friends calling me a "freak" derided my book which was about the possibility of an afterlife thanks to quantum mechanics. Bert went on to publish false claims that my charitable site was a fraud, that I did not actually give money to charity; how's that for libel? What made it worse is that Bert deliberately targeted my charitable site on the internet to show up in search engine returns and thus affect the money my site earned for children's charities; how's that for nasty? Bert Vierstra basically called me a criminal for having been involved in online medications even though I had already informed him that I actually sought legal advice and even contacted the US FDA at one point and was never informed that anything I was doing was remotely criminal, yet Bert still described me as one. Plus Bert went on to show just how flawed all his so-called investigations and proof are against me by claiming I was into jewelry on the Internet as a business; not me thank you. It is clear Bert spent months worth of time on his false quest to defame me on the Internet and being made to remove all his sad work clearly did not go down well with Bert as this is when he decided to take his quest against me to Portugal!
Bert has been pulling a few favours with one of his little Dutch chums to try and harass me in Portugal, with threatening text messages to my mobile, with an email saying he would come to Portugal to deal with me face to face (any day Bert, just make sure it is face to face and you call me first to avoid any misunderstandings) and to threaten me with libel proceedings in Portugal and the EU. Vierstra has even "appointed" his Dutch friend's "lawyer" in Lisbon, one Luís Carvalho Neves, whose advogado association fax contact number indicates he is registered solely for general legal advice (counsel) within his position as Secretary General for the Portuguese Association of Vending Machines! So this is what Bert meant about dispensing justice! No matter what lawyer Vierstra goes crying like a little scaredy cat to though, Bert has that one major legal technical hurdle to overcome; he gave both me and Bali BS permission to publish what we wanted! So as for suing me in Portugal and the EU; oh, OK! Perhaps Bert is on coke.
The above are documented facts, not seeming pure rhetoric as with Vierstra. I believe the cold light of day shows that Vierstra is gay and therefore lives in Bali unlawfully courtesy of a sham marriage and that he exhibits severe psychological (mental) problems which I believe are typical of a pedophile. As the saying goes, especially when he gave me permission to say it “If the pedophile cap fits Vierstra, you must be a pedophile”.

My Balinese History
I went to Bali on holiday, was not happy with the Bali Travel Forum (not enough info about the real Bali, just talk of Kuta, plus abuse by the forum owners posing as tourists posting advertisements everywhere) or reservation sites (uninsured agents taking your money in advance), so I built my own forum and direct reservations site (book with and pay the hotel directly). I did it as a hobby but as my sites became busy and successful, I formed an English company, etc. to further legitimize these sites.
What I did was go walkabout, round the island of Bali and check out the hotels; see what price they would give me as a walk-in guest and to inspect their rooms and grounds, etc. Probably visiting as many as 10 hotels in one day, this exposed me to a great number of hotels and villas in Bali, and I got to know which ones were really the best. When I returned to England I would then invite the best hotels to join my reservations site and use the photos I had taken myself as a regular guest; not specially taken and modified photos as many hotels use themselves. I would even tell users of my sites which room(s) to ask for, as some are always better than others for location, view, tranquility, access, etc; this made my sites very unique and popular.
The problem was that some visitors to Bali did not like to hear from me that I rated their favorite hotel as not so good, but then I had no axe to grind at that stage, I just reported it as I saw it. Bear in mind also I made comparisons with Thai hotels, as I also did the same thing in Thailand. When I went around the so called luxury hotels in Nusa Dua Bali I was generally unimpressed to say the least! I found the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel to be the worst in every respect after they downgraded us from the room we had paid for and then tried to tell us it was a better room, got left en route to the room for 30 minutes, had our baggage lost, had my precious laptop left on the reservations desk for I do not know how long after someone decided to take it out of the secure office area for what reason I do not know (our passports were in the laptop case as well), had problems getting coffee and tea in the breakfast room (even after 3 requests, the last one to the restaurant manager, we ended up having to go into the kitchen to get it ourselves while some other guests near us simply went without), was nearly poisoned by the amount of msg they put in their food (they had no msg free options either), etc., etc. Regulars of the Bali Travel Forum went mad at my report as this, apparently, was their favorite hotel and my forum got hammered with hate messages! All I did was say what happened, sorry!
As time went on I increasingly became aware of just how nasty Bali was behind the smiles. In Lovina gay pedophile tourists would call on the street kids on the beach to show them their backsides and offer them money, perhaps $10, to go into their room with them. I saw also how many of the snooty expatriate community looked down on the Balinese, the very people they relied upon for their incomes and lifestyles; it was ok to have sex with a Balinese but not to bring them into your social circle unless they were from the upper caste (Hindu Bali has a caste structure almost mirroring that of India). I saw how young girls were actively rented out on the streets of Kuta and Legian, along with narcotics; the later to excess and clearly with the consent or even sponsorship of the police. I saw how many redneck tourists came to Bali and screamed at hotel staff, shop and restaurant workers, most often using profanities and / or indignation as if the Balinese were beneath them. I got fed up with being stopped by police demanding money for something I had not done. When Waka Shorea's manager posted spam on my travel forum and I replied asking if his was the hotel built under questionable circumstances (a dodgy building permit) on National Park land (which meant the permit was illegal), he threatened to get me the Indonesian way by slashing my throat from behind. But you know, when I went out into the real Bali, away from the mass tourist hoards, away from the bands of demeaning expatriates, away from the pretentious leaches, I really loved Bali and its people. And yes, I married a Balinese girl and we have presently two children together.
One thing I hated were the travel agents who would cheat on the Internet using what is called "switch and bait", where they would advertise rooms at popular hotels at rates they could not and had no intention of honoring in order to get people enquiring and giving their credit card details; the agent would then say the hotel was fully booked (when it wasn't of course) but they had another great deal for the customer (which wasn't great at all), knowing the foreigner would feel obliged to do business with them not least as they had their credit card details. Just before the 2002 bombing I caught yet another agent offering rates on their web site the hotel said could not and would not be honoured; that agent was PT Bali Discovery Tours of Sanur, CEO Jack Daniels, who was forced to remove the offending rates by the hotel. This happened one month before the 2002 terrorist bombings.
When JI bombed Bali I went there as a sign of support; I was the only foreigner apart from 3 returning expats on the Singapore Airlines flight to Bali which would normally be packed. I had been told by various hotel owners that security now was so tight, Bali was the safest place to be; when I got to Bali I was horrified to see the reverse. When I left my home in Phuket I experienced massive security and was scanned twice, also in Singapore en route the security was huge and I was scanned again. When I got to Bali it was business as usual with the security staff reading books and lounging around, police ignoring traffic coming into Bali from the ferries, plus I got stopped for money again. The Indonesian TV and media reported how tight security was and the hotel owners believed them; it was a falsehood. Once I returned home to Phuket after being very, very scared at the appalling security at Bali airport on the way out too, I emailed a few hotel owners to let them know of my experiences. My email was really well received and one of them asked if he could use my email to help get the point across at security meetings then being held on the island that things were not as good as they should be; I said yes. The email was reproduced and finally ended up on an email newsletter service; one the recipients of which was Jack Daniels of Bali Discovery Tours. I would like to make the point that the US Homeland security also and still to this day say that Bali airport is a significant terrorist risk because of inadequate security there; so why were my same observations so "evil" and "illegal"!
Jack Daniels watched my posts on my own travel forum and when he knew I was going back to Bali he unlawfully colluded with the police saying I had insulted them but without signing the complaint form and that is how the police started acting unlawfully against me. They threatened to shoot me as a spy and had me listed on Interpol for a while as an insurgent! OK, I speak my mind, but I only ever had the interests and safety of travelers in mind, plus realized that providing false information about security would only cause Bali more hardship than being honest and doing something about it. The second bombings in 2005 completely destroyed Bali's tourism business and still it suffers badly to this day a) because the security is so bad thanks to ineffective policing no doubt because of corruption and b) because people hate being lied to, as I know the Indonesian tourism machine and authorities do all the time.
Certain expats in Bali hate me simply because my messages reach an audience as I intend them to, and people decide to stay away from Bali as a result for their won safety and to avoid putting money into corrupt officials and business people's wallets. These expats call me Nasty Mark of Bali, but the truth is I never made a penny out of my Bali Internet travel business / sites, I paid more to operate those sites and even gave away more than I made from them. I gave free rooms to families of bomb victims and I gave money to needy Balinese families whose sole bread winner was sent home from the hotel they worked for without wages or social security. So the expats that demean me only hate me because I have affected them, not the Balinese.
That is the truth of it, well documented, and a testament to the fact that foreigners should be very careful for a number of reasons if they decide to go to Bali, as they are likely fed nothing but lies and end up becoming a part of the problem for the Balinese and / or a victim themselves. It is clear while the Balinese police continue to pursue their acts of hate against me, because I named and shamed them (legally so by the way), Bali will not change and foreigners should beware.

I have scanned the front first part and the bit about Interpol so you can see this is no joke, Interpol were feeding the corrupt police of Bali, Indonesia with my home address, which was then passed to John M Daniels of Bali Discovery Tours (also a recorded, documented fact) who then paid Thai gangsters to have me murdered. They failed only because I was alerted to what was going on by the security guards at the fenced / gated estate in Phuket our house was in.

Bert claims my company’s Travel Ethos charitable site is a scam that claims to be a charitable site while actually doing nothing for charity; he intimates even alleges I pocket the money. It is a fact that any and all commissions my site earns directly from the hotels and villas in Bali and

At one point Bert Vierstra claimed / inferred I hacked one of his sites but it transpired the problem was his hosting company messed up big time. You see one of Vierstra’s photo sites suddenly got deleted and I was basically accused of hacking it! Actually hackers either get credit card or other personal details from databases, while others deface sites with typically political messages. Bert Vierstra’s site got deleted I understand by his own web hosting company for not paying the renewal fee; a fact he was later forced to admit, yet he basically accused me of being a hacker.
His basis for this was yet another idiot expatriate in Bali called Jack Daniels who one day sent out a ton of “Report illegal villas to me and I will shop them with the police” emails in an apparently drunken stupor and then blamed me for it; saying I had sent the emails out somehow through his system. Trouble is the electronic transaction information within these emails showed they came from Daniels’ web site email service and were initiated by Daniels’ Indonesian ISP account. So I hacked both his ISP user name and password and his web site user name and password did I? How come I did not delete or deface Daniels’ site while I was in there? How come I did not download his databases and then abuse (sell) or even publish all his customer’s credit card details? Oh please, it is a recorded fact Daniels sent out that email campaign, regretted it, and then blamed me for something I could not have done.

Funny, when factual (with evidence) details go up of how the noisy oik expatriates in Bali all either deal in or take narcotics in Indonesia illegally, they accuse me of being the person responsible for all of these reports and then try to find something nasty about me to publish in return. The main straw they have grasped is my involvement with selling prescription medications such as diet pill on the internet for a while, claiming such things are illegal! Actually, all I ever did in this regard was to build a few affiliate pill sites while they were still considered legal; to my knowledge even people acting as affiliates for illegal prescription medication sites are not legally liable / have never been prosecuted. Not that I really get into it these days but these nasty Bali expat claims that all online prescription pharmacies are illegal are false anyway, even to this day, although the US FDA states that personal prescription drug imports from overseas sites that have not specifically targeted the person in the USA are OK. You only have to do a quick look on Google for Canadian pharmacies to see they sell to the USA quite legally apparently, not that I am an expert on the subject.
Boring? It sure is but it isn't illegal as the Muppets of Bali claim.

The sad elements of the Bali expat dross circle claim I am a spammer, yet I have never sent out a spam email in my life, fact. Their claim is that I helped promote my "illegal" pharmacy sites with search engines by posting links on guest books years ago. You see, the more links (within reason) your web site gets, the more "votes" / endorsements the search engines think you have from other web sites, the higher in the search returns your site appears. However, I have not posted links on guest-books for years and I can distinctly remember to this day the time Google used to suggest to webmasters (owners of web sites) that they get their links on guest-books; yes, Google used to suggest this! So what have I done wrong / am a spammer? Jeez, how desperate are these foreign wackos in Bali? And as it happens it is a well known fact that getting links on guest-books no longer has any effect on your site with the likes of Google.
Bali Villas
The Bali bozzo brigade keep on and on about villas I own in North Bali. First, as a foreigner I could never have owned villas in Bali. Second, the villas they refer to, which my Balinese wife's family had a financial interest in, are no longer anything to do with them. I do not know why they want to ignore these facts; I can only believe they want to harm the villas in question for being affiliated with my name in the past.
Defamer
A circle of Bali most stupid and nasty expatriates claim I publish material on the Internet about them. They claim web sites such as Bali BS and Fugly Bali are mine. Claims that I owned web sites I most definitely do not were first made by Jack Daniels, the man who tried to have me murdered in Phuket, to the Balinese police. I am tired of keep having to deny such things and ask "Where is the evidence they are mine anyway?"; there is NONE. But this does not stop them; if their cat gets run over, they toddle off down to the local bent plod (police) office and accuse me of it. It is ironic is it not that the people who accuse me of defamation are wrong and are in fact themselves the defamers, amongst other things!
